After his talks in Shenzhen, Mr. Gül went to Urumqi, where he visited the Red Hill National Park and Xinjiang University. At Xinjiang University, he was awarded the title of honorary professor by the university rector, Enver Hamut, and he addressed university students and academics.
Mr. Gül is the first Turkish president to visit the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, where he received Party Secretary, Wang Lequan and the Governor, Nur Bekri. During the reception, Governor Bekri gave a qiapan, a traditional gown worn by Uyghur men, to Mr. Gül as a gift. After the reception, Mr. Gül attended a lunch given by Bekri in his honour.
In Urumqi, Mr. Gül visited two plants which produce solar panels and wind power equipment before he returned to Ankara.
The agreements signed during Mr. Gül's visit to China include a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Energy, a Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of a Joint Working Group between Turkish and Chinese Foreign Ministries, an Agreement on the Protection of Cultural Assets and Prevention of their Illegal Trade, Framework Agreements for Commercial Financing and Credit Facilities between Türk Telekom, İş Bankası, Akbank and China Exim Bank, and an agreement to exchange videos between the Anatolia News Agency and the Chinese News Agency, Xinhua.
