President Gül, accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff, Necdet Özel; the Chief of the Army, Hayri Kıvrıkoğlu; the Commander of the Gendarmerie Forces, Bekir Kalyoncu and the Commander of the Second Army, Servet Yörük, on his visits to the provinces of Van, Hakkari, Şırnak and Siirt inspected the military bases.

HANDOVER CEREMONY ON THE BORDER

Spending the night at the Hakkari Commando Brigade Command, the President, in the early morning, proceeded to the Çukurca 20th Gendarmerie Border Brigade Command located on the border with Iraq. He attended the handover ceremony at the command after being informed about its operations and activities.

 

THE PRESIDENT AT THE ŞIRNAK MILITARY BASE

After the handover ceremony, the President presented awards to the successful military staff and later proceeded to the Şırnak Military Base where he was briefed about the area. Inspecting the emplacements and chatting with soldiers, the President watched artillery shooting at a target.

After the award ceremony, President Gül visited the Şırnak 23rd Gendarmerie Division Command about which he was informed there and he had lunch with soldiers at the refectory. The President, presenting awards to the accomplished personnel as well, paid a visit to the Akrep (Scorpion) Military Base facing the Gabar Mountains.

GÜL’S VISIT TO THE SIIRT MILITARY BASE

President Gül, inspecting the base and the emplacements, was also briefed about the terrain and the technical amenities of the base. Drinking tea with the soldiers serving at the base, the President gave presents to the successful staff. Afterwards, he visited the Siirt 3rd Commando Brigade Command where he was informed about the brigade’s operations and awarded the accomplished military personnel as well. The President, completing his program, left for Istanbul.
