President Gül was welcomed by Cameroonese President Paul Biya with an official ceremony at Yaoundé Airport. After the ceremony, he received separately the Cameroonese PM, Philemon Yang, Cameroonese FM Henri Eyebe and the Parliament Speaker of Cameroon, Cavaye Yegue Djibril at the hotel where he is staying.

GÜL PRESENTED WITH A STATE MEDAL OF CAMEROON

The two Presidents had a tete-a-tete at the Presidential Palace, where President Gül was granted a State Medal of Cameroon by his Cameroonese counterpart.

After the tete-a-tete lasting an hour and a half, an agreement that lifts the visa requirement and a protocol on technical, scientific and economic cooperation in agriculture were signed with the participation of the delegations of both countries.

TURKEY’S AID TO AFRICA WILL CONTINUE

President Gül attended Turkey-Cameroon Business Forum as part of his program in this country during which he declared Africa’s long-lasting problems to be the world’s problems announced that Turkey would continue its technical and humanitarian aid to Africa.

President Gül advocated conducting business together, making investments, transferring technology and information as the best way to help each other, adding that Turkey intends to increase its embassies from 18 to 25.

CAMEROON: “AFRICA IN MINIATURE”

Noting that Cameroon is known as the “Africa in Miniature”, President Gül declared that Cameroon, which has rich natural resources both above and below ground , reflects all the variety of the African continent. “We attach great importance to having close cooperation with Cameroon,” said the President.

Turkey, suggested President Gül, could invest in Cameroon in such fields as construction, mining, health and education and he also said that Turkey could share its knowledge and experience in agriculture with Cameroon.

President Abdullah Gül later attended a dinner given by the Cameroonese President, Paul Biya.

“2010 WILL BE A YEAR TO REMEMBER AS TURKEY AND CAMEROON BLAZED MANY TRAILS IN THEIR BILATERAL RELATIONS”

During his speech, President Gül admitted his pride in being the first Turkish president to pay a visit to Cameroon and predicted that 2010 would be a year to remember as Turkey and Cameroon blazed many trails in their bilateral relations.

EFFORTS TO ENHANCE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP TIES

Turkey will continue displaying her efforts to develop her strategic partnership ties with Cameroon,said the President and he reiterated that Turkey gives priority to improving the bilateral relations between the two countries on a fair, balanced basis that serves the common interests of the two peoples.

Turkey, continued the President, intends to enrich and deepen the Turkish-African relations including but not limited to economic cooperation investments, health , education, rural development, effective utilization of water resources , transport and energy. He further asserted that Turkey pursues an integral approach and a win-win policy to achieve this.

GÜL’S VISIT TO THE TURKISH COLLEGE IN CAMEROON

On the second day of his visit to Cameroon, President Gül hosted a breakfast at which he met with some Turkish and Cameroonese businessmen.

Afterwards, he visited the Turkish College where he was welcomed with zest. After the local dance performance and the national anthems of both countries by the students, a Cameroonese student girl sang a Turkish folk song: “Gesi Bağları”

President Gül later opened the Turkish Embassy to Yaounde.

After having completed his program, President Gül left Cameroon for Ankara. President Biya; Turkish Ambassador to Yaounde Atılay Ersan and other authorities saw President Gül off at Yaounde Airport.
