"Teachers are guides for the public"

Hosting a luncheon for 81 teachers from 81 cities, President Gül declared: “Teaching is an art beyond a job that necessitates specialty, affection, patience and tolerance.”

President Abdullah Gül expressed his pleasure to be with 81 teachers from 81 cities at the luncheon he hosted at the Çankaya Presidential Palace.

“EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO DEVELOPMENT”

Recalling that he gets together with teachers every year on the Teachers’ Day, the President said: “I believe that we demonstrate in the best way the immense respect the nation feels for teachers by meeting with them at the Çankaya Presidential Palace as a traditional activity.”

President Gül, mentioning education as the key to the social, cultural and economic development, asserted that all countries attach great importance to education.

“TEACHING IS AN ART”

The President continued as follows: “Students are shaped, they mature and are prepared for life in the hands of teachers. The second source of knowledge after parents is teachers. Notions gain meaning through teachers. Teachers are also sages guiding students and the nation as well.” He further offered his thanks to teachers, saying: “I hereby would like to extend my gratitude on behalf of the nation and the state to our teachers.” The President then referred to the importance of raising qualified teachers.

President Gül, noting that he is well aware of the expectations of teachers about the development of their working conditions and their living standards, suggested that teachers’ concerns not be separated from those of education, to which he declared the Ministry of National Education attaches special importance.

As ending his speech the President said: “I will be very pleased if you convey my good will to your colleagues, students and families when you return to the cities where you teach your students. I hereby remember Atatürk, the great leader and the Head Teacher and all other teachers passing away with gratitude and wish you success.”
