“Israeli agression is spreading seeds of hatred across the world”

President Gül, after having performed the Friday Prayer at Tarabya Merkez Mosque, reiterated that the people of Palestine, who have suffered from cruelties and agonies for 6 decades, have recently become the target of relentless assaults. “Israeli agression is spreading seeds of hatred across the world, leading to the radicalization of the world.”

President Abdullah Gül performed the Friday Prayer at Tarabya Merkez Mosque and after that he responded to queries from the press.

ISRAELI CRUELTIES TOWARD INNOCENT PEOPLE OF PALESTINE

Recalling that he had pointed to the current uneasiness and rising violence in some parts of the world including such countries as Ukraine and Palestine, President Gül said the government has made great efforts so that the Israeli assaults could stop. However, he noted, the people of Palestine, who have suffered from cruelties and agonies for 6 decades, have recently become the target of relentless assaults. “Innocent children have been massacred before the very eyes of the world and unfortunately consiences have remained silent in the face of these brutalities. Israeli agression is spreading seeds of hatred not only in Palestine, but also across the world, leading to the radicalization of the world.”

Calling for an end to the ongoing human tragedy, agression and brutalityy, President Gül called on the UN Security Council to make a statement and adopt a very strong resolution to stop Israel’s agression. “I will meet with President Abbas of Palestine today and we will make statements about this issue as well. I am warning Israel once again. Unless it ends this agression, these incidents might lead to graver problems. I hereby wish that Allah’s mercy be upon those who have lost their lives in Israeli attacks. I also would like to send my condolences to the families of the people who were killed during the Malaysian airplane crash in Ukraine.”

Question: Mr. President, both Israel and Egypt have accused Turkey of hindering a ceasefire as to the current issue. Can we hear your comment on that?

President Gül: “This is nonsense. How could such a thing be possible? Turkey has made tireless efforts so that no one is killed. It is not fair indeed to make such an accusation about Turkey when we have done everything we can to stop this brutality before the eyes of the world. Turkey will continue to make great efforts for a permanent ceasefire. Last week, I made a statement during which I reiterated the importance of turning to the agreement achieved in 2012, underscoring that a ceasefire should be reached without further delay and that a two-state vision about this problem should be achieved. I believe that these accusations are made by those who do not want to hear Turkey’s voice against these cruelties.”
