President Gül: “I will not run for president”

Responding to queries from the press following the 88th Gazi Derby held at the Veliefendi Hippodrome, President Abdullah Gül declared that he would not run for president.

President Abdullah Gül responded to queries from the press as to the current affairs.

After watching the 88th Gazi Derby, which is Turkey’s most prestigious horse race, President Gül congratulated the owner of the winning horse , the trainer of the horse and the jockey. Afterwards, when asked if he would declare his candidacy in this upcoming presidential elections, the President noted: “No, I will not run for president. We discussed it with Prime Minister Erdoğan following the local elections held on March 30. My tenure ends on August 28.”

President Gül, when asked whether he would run for prime minister next year, said that “they will discuss it later.”
