 MGK June Meeting Held at the Çankaya Presidential Palace

 

The National Security Council (MGK) meeting was held under the chairmanship of President Abdullah Gül at the Çankaya Presidential Palace. The members of the Council discussed the activities, which threaten the peace and security of the people, and the measures that have been taken and should further be taken against these activities. The MGK members also reviewed the level reached in terms of the resolution process regarding the Kurdish question, the legal and administrative processes being carried out against the intra-state illegal structures, and the recent developments in Syria and Iraq.

President Abdullah Gül chaired the MGK June meeting  that was held at the Çankaya Presidential Palace.

The Secretariat General of the MGK issued a written statement which said the members of the Council evaluated in detail the activities, which threaten the peace and security of the people, and the measures that have been taken and should further be taken against these activities. The MGK members also reviewed the level reached in terms of the resolution process regarding the Kurdish question, noted the MGK Secretariat General, adding that as part of this, the members sensitively focused on the current situation of the children abducted from the terrorist organization. The statement issued by the MGK Secretariat General also maintained that the legal and administrative processes being carried out against the intra-state illegal structures had been discussed by the council members.

The Secretariat General reiterated that the MGK members further discussed in detail the recent negative developments emerging in Iraq and the situation of the Turkmen people in that country. It also noted that the members exchanged views on the reverberations of the ongoing violence in Iraq that could turn into sectarian-based clashes on the region. The statement further underscored that Turkey will continue to lend its support for Iraq’s territorial and political integrity and said that the situation of the Turkish lorry drivers and the staff of the Turkish Consulate in Mosul who are under custody there had also been discussed.

The members of the MGK, said the statement that the Secretariat General issued, evaluated the influences of the ongoing clashes in Syria on the security and stability of the regional countries, including Turkey. It further reiterated that the members further reviewed the military relations between Turkey and Africa, adding that as part of this, the Council was informed about the Barbaros Turkish Maritime Task Group’ s activities in that continent.
