Secretary General Rasmussen of NATO at the Çankaya Presidential Palace

President Abdullah Gül received Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen of NATO whose term in office is to end this fall and who is visiting Turkey to conduct talks as part of the Wales Summit that will be held in September.

Offering his thanks to Secretary General Rasmussen for his services during his term in office in NATO, President Gül pointed to the sagacious leadership NATO has assumed during the Allied countries’ studies in the preparation for defense strategy, underscoring the importance of the adoption of the New Strategic Concept.

Secretary General Rasmussen extended his thanks to President Gül for the support and cooperation President Gül has provided during Mr. Rasmussen’s term in office in NATO. The Secretary General further informed the President about the agenda of the Wales Summit that will be held in September.

President Gül and Secretary General Rasmussen also discussed the recent developments in Iraq, Ukraine and Afghanistan.
