Provincial Governor Canditates for the 99th Term at the Çankaya Presidential Palace

Receiving the Minister of the Interior, Efkan Ala, and his accompanying delegation of the provincial governor candidates for the 99th term at the Çankaya Presidential Palace, President Gül underscored the importance of the duty the provincial governors hold and noted that the roof of the Turkish state system is based on local authority.

IMPORTANCE OF RAISING PROVINCIAL GOVERNORS
Evincing his pleasure to receive his guests and referring to the importance of the position of provincial governors within the state, President Gül noted that the roof of the Turkish state system is based on local authority. The first step to becoming a local authority is becoming a provincial governor, said the President, pointing to the significance of raising these officials in the best way. Turkey, he added, attaches great importance to achieving this.
Reiterating that the state has lofty hopes for provincial governors, President Gül maintained that “you can work in other areas within the state administration system and hold other positions in different departments. You will implement the policies of the state in the counties where you will serve and you will demonstrate the best examples and characteristics of good governance in these places. You will enable the state organs to function in good coordination there.You will be the first door of the state and the government for citizens.”
President Gül further highlighted the cruciality that provincial governors treat all citizens equally no matter what ideologies these citizens have and whatever backgrounds they might come from and he also noted that they should address the problems they see in counties objectively.
PRESIDENT GÜL SUGGESTIONS FOR PROVINCIAL GOVERNORS
The President further made suggestions to the provincial governor candidates, accentuating that they be the ones who can activate and exert the potential in the counties where they will serve. He also suggested that they be courageous to try their best to address the problems of citizens and that they act responsibly as well, adding that they make the most of the amenities and opportunities the modern world offers for them. “You can access to the libraries of the most important universities in the world through the Internet. You should broaden your horizons by augmenting yor knowledge. Don’t you forget that our country will always need officials who can be very good at foreign languages.”

The President, maintaining that provincial governors should regard the diversities in the country as its richness, reiterated that they should represent the state in the best way, continuing: “You will strengthen the citizens’ fidelity to and love for the country through your services. I would like to offer my thanks to everyone who has contributed to your achievements.”
