Governor-General Jerry Mateparae of New Zealand is paying a state visit to Turkey at the invitation of President Abdullah Gül.

Governor-General Jerry Mateparae of New Zealand, upon his entrance into the Presidential campus, was welcomed by the mounted troops.

President Gül welcomed Governor-General Jerry Mateparae of New Zealand with an official ceremony. Afterwards, the Presidential Couple had a tete-a-tete with Governor-General Jerry Mateparae of New Zealand and his wife Janine Mateparae. The two leaders later chaired the talks between their delegations.

Governor-General Jerry Mateparae’s visit coincided with the 99th anniversary of the Battle of Çanakkale (Battle of Gallipoli). This battle launched the relationships between Turkey and New Zealand that have since evolved into a strong friendship that the two countries enjoy today. The universal human values that both belligerent states at the time tried to maintain even during the times of war serve today as the basic foundation on which Turkey and New Zealand have established robust and permanent ties based on mutual respect in their relations
