50th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey Promotion Held at Çankaya Presidential Palace

 

President Abdullah Gül joined the “Press Tour” held at the Çankaya Presidential Palace in order to promote the 50th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. Reiterating the importance of the activity in promoting the country across the world, President Gül expressed his pleasure at hosting the event at the Presidential Palace.

The tour which President Gül and 50 other  cyclists also attended was launched at the ceremonial ground and followed a route that included the heliport, DDK building, the Pink House, the Museum Villa and Atatürk memorial.

President Gül, pointing to the significance of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey which he said has been held for 50 years, noted that this sports event, which is held in very beautiful cities with beautiful coasts and which is broadcast live for two hours in a week in 130 countries all around the world with the cooperation between Turkey’s TRT and Eurosport, greatly contributes to the promotion of the country across the world.

Throughout this activity, the President said, the world will watch for hours such beautiful cities of Turkey as Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya and Ankara. “I therefore attach great importance to this event and lend my support to it. Cycling is a life style in developed countries indeed and it is strongly adviced for a healthy life.”

President Gül afterwards offered his thanks to the Youth and Sports Minister, Çağatay Kılıç; to the Chairman Brian Cookson of the International Cycling Union (UCI) and UCI officials and to the press for joining the activity.

The President at the finish line presented a plaque to the UCI’s Cookson for his contributions to the 50th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey.
