Gül Explores Exhibition of the 600th Anniversary of Turkish-Polish Relations

President Abdullah Gül and President Komorowski, who is paying a state visit to Turkey, participated in the opening ceremony of an exhibition entitled: “Turkey-Poland: The 600th Anniversary of the Political and Cultural Relations”.

Making a speech at the ceremony, President Gül shared his happiness to open the exhibition held at the Sakıp Sabancı Museum in Istanbul.

DEEP-ROOTED RELATIONS THAT TURKEY AND POLAND ENJOY

President Gül noted that Turkish-Polish bilateral relations which date back 600 years are very robust and deep-rooted and pointed out that the friendship which started during the times of the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Lech has gained strength since then, adding: “President Komorowoski’s visit will give momentum and provide more strength to our relations. We should cherish this fellowship and pass it down to the future posterity. As part of this, we will hold some 40 activities in many areas ranging from culture and education to politics and security in order to mark the 600th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries.”

Recalling that during his state visit to Varsaw in 2011, President Komorowski took him to an exhibition at which Turkish archives including a16-meter-long Turkish edict were on display, President Gül said that all of these pieces were cultural treasures. “There were a number of important statesmen and artists of Polish origin who served in the Ottoman Empire and who took Muslim Turkish names. These people also were our treasures and contributed to the friendship between the two countries. This exhibition that we will open today will make a great contribution in carrying our fellowship and relations to the future.”
